The last UK factory making Wellington Boots sadly closed down in 2008.
The "Wellington" boot became a staple of hunting and outdoor
wear for the British aristocracy in the early 19th century after it was popularised by
the Duke of Wellington.
The Welly Wanging World Championships are held each year in the town of
Upperthong in Holmfirth – the ‘sport’ is thought to have originated from
a spat between two farmers in a local pub! According to the Guinness Book of World Records the furthest
Welly Wanging throws were set at Hämeenlinna, Finland, on 12 October 1996. The longest
throw was 63.98metres!!
