I was looking for wellies to accommodate not just my wide feet, but also a toe joint enlarged by arthritis. I don't have large calves but was struggling to find any wide fit wellies that were not primarily aimed at wide legs. But having read the Jileon reviews, I took the plunge. And am glad that I did. Yes, the ankle area is generous, but I wear a normal pair of socks and the Jileon welly liners and that is sufficient to stop any looseness. Especially as the wellies have a furry lining. The foot is wide enough for my very wide feet and there is no pressure on my arthritic big toe joint at all. In fact the wide ankle makes it very easy to get my foot in and out, which with the lack of movement arthritis brings, is a huge benefit. I have only had them a couple of weeks, so I can't comment on longevity, but so far, so good. I have bought a size 6. I would say I usually buy a 6 to 6.5 in shoes.
